Makes 12 pakodas
Hot bread pakodas are the ideal snack on cold rainy evenings. Use whole wheat bread for a healthier alternative.
Ingredients:
6 slices of bread
3 cups gram flour (besan)
¼ tsp turmeric powder
A pinch of asafetida (hing)
A pinch of baking soda
Chili powder
Salt
Oil for deep-frying
Method:
- Mix gram flour with enough water to make a medium-thick paste. Ensure there are no lumps.

Add baking soda, salt and spices, mix and check the taste.

Cut the bread slices into half, diagonally.

Dip the slices into the gram flour batter and deep fry until golden brown.
- Drain and place on tissue paper or towel.

Serve hot with green chutney and tomato ketchup.
Note: In the absense of baking soda, use either baking powder, fruit salts, Eno, or use aerated soda instead of water.
