This dish is traditionally served during Sankranti, prepared with freshly harvested rice to celebrate the new season.
Ingredients:
200 gm Sweetened Condensed Milk (½ tin Milkmaid)
1½ cups rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
¼ cup yellow moong dal washed
1 tbsp raisins
1 tbsp cashew bits
4-5 cardamom pods crushed
2 cloves crushed
1 pingpong-ball sized lump jaggery
2 tbsp ghee
4 cups water
Method:
- Drain dal, spread on a thick clean kitchen towel for 5 minutes, to soak moisture.
- Roast dal lightly, till dry and light. Set aside.
- Cook rice in the water, till ¾th done.
- Add moong dal and let it cook
- Allow most of the water to evaporate.
- Mix jaggery with condensed milk and add to rice.
- Stir gently, and allow to cook till almost dry.
- Heat ghee and fry cashewnuts till light golden. Pour on the rice.
- Add spices and raisins, and mix very gently. Serve hot.
